Michael Merenda: Listen

Dekalb Avenue Dream

(from the album "Election Day")
Dekalb Ave Dream
©2003 m j m j r ∞

We were only dancing I don’t dance you can fill in the blanks
And the sound of the song was lost among the water pipe clanks
And as empty as I looked
Was as empty as I felt
And with the moon in my eyes I was blind as she emptied me out

You take the train to Dekalb and walk the three blocks to Tillary Street
Leave identification at the door pick it up when you leave
Elevator Up
Smell her perfume thru the door
We smoked the stuff & I joked we can’t meet like this any more
And as empty as I felt
Was as empty as I looked
We filled the ash tray with procrastination and my voice shook
She put on some Latin music
Then the drugs set in
One minute we were in love the next minute sinning

We were only dancing . . .
You can fill in the blanks . . .
And the sound of the song . . .
Was the sound of the song . . .
And as I empty as I looked . . .
Was as empty as I felt . . .
You take the train to Dekalb . . .
